WHAT IS HYDROGEN WATER?

Hydrogen water is regular water infused with molecular hydrogen (H2).

Wait doesn't water already have hydrogen in it?

Yes and no.

Water or H2O is two parts hydrogen and one part oxygen covalently bonded together. So yes it contains a form of hydrogen.

But to unlock the benefits of molecular hydrogen you must separate the oxygen and hydrogen so the hydrogen atoms are free to exert their antioxidant properties.

Using the electrolysis process you can split these two elements.

The hydrogen absorbs into the water. The oxygen escapes out of vents on the base of the bottle.

HOW DOES MOLECULAR HYDROGEN WORK?

For most of medical history we thought hydrogen was just another inert gas with no real medical applications. All of that changed in 2007, when a group of researchers published their findings in the medical journal Nature showing that hydrogen is actually a unique and highly-effective antioxidant in the human body.

Since then, there have been over 1400 peer-reviewed studies showing that molecular hydrogen has therapeutic applications for over 170 different disease models.

HOW CAN THERE BE SO MANY APPLICATIONS?

It has a lot to do with something called oxidative stress. In a nutshell, oxidative stress is a damaging process that occurs when the body has too many free radicals and not enough antioxidants to keep them in check.

Oxidative stress causes the breakdown of cell tissue, DNA damage and increased inflammation.

These factors can effect any cell in the body and can cause an endless range of health issues such as:

  • Cancer
  • neurological diseases eg parkinsons & Alzheimer’s disease
  • Cardiovascular Disease
  • Diabetes
  • Memory loss
  • Ageing

Molecular hydrogen (H2) is an antioxidant that reduces oxidative stress by selectively targeting only harmful free radicals. So it makes sense that H2 has so many applications to prevent and fight a wide range of diseases within the body.

WHAT ARE FREE RADICALS?

Free radicals are molecules that have a single unpaired electron in their outer shell. Electrons don’t like being unpaired. This causes free radicals to react with other molecules to steal their electrons in order to stabilise, this damages healthy cells, mitochondria, proteins and DNA in the process.

Throughout our entire lives, our bodies are bombarded by harmful free radicals.

They often come from various environmental sources, such as

  • Air pollution
  • Heavy metal contamination
  • Pesticide use
  • Tobacco smoke
  • Alcohol
  • UV Exposure

However they are non-avoidable as they are also created internally through normal metabolic processes, exercise, injury, disease and inflammation.

They cause irreversible damage to the body, so preventative measures are preferred whenever possible.

WHAT ARE ANTIOXIDANTS?

Antioxidants are molecules stable enough to donate an electron to a cytotoxic free radical and neutralise them, thus reducing their capacity to cause a chain reaction of cellular damage.

Our bodies are able to produce natural antioxidants to combat these free radicals. However, as we age, our natural antioxidant production weakens.

When antioxidant production can’t keep up, and our bodys are exposed to harmful substances that produce free radicals they can start to wreak havoc on our bodies

In fact, the free radical theory of aging holds that damage from free radicals is the primary biochemical process that causes ageing.

WHY MOLECULAR HYDROGEN THE ULTIMATE ANTIOXIDANT

Multiple studies over the past decade have repeatedly supported the utility of molecular hydrogen as a powerful antioxidant. Hydrogen is an amazing antioxidant for a few reasons.

1. MOLECULAR HYDROGEN IS THE SMALLEST & PUREST ANTIOXIDANT THAT EXISTS.

H2 is far smaller than any other antioxidant, allowing it to easily enter deeper into our cells than all other Antioxidants. In fact, it is even small enough to penetrate the mitochondria of cells (the cell’s energy center, meaning H2 provides antioxidant protection at the source of harmful Free Radical production. Unlike other Antioxidants, H2 is also small enough to pass through the blood-brain barrier to provide protection against free radicals within the brain giving hydrogen water a range of neuroprotective effects.

2. MOLECULAR HYDROGEN IS THE "SMART" ANTIOXIDANT

Most Antioxidants have limited effectiveness for two reasons.

  • They can only protect against some free radicals but not others
  • They cannot distinguish between necessary & harmful Free Radicals.

some free radicals are beneficial to our cells, such as hydrogen peroxide. Molecular Hydrogen solves both problems. H2 selectively targets only the toxic oxygen radicals, and neutralizes every type of harmful free radical in our cells. H2 protects the cell’s DNA, RNA, protein, lipids & more from Oxidative Stress better than any other Antioxidant.

Hydrogen as a selective antioxidant

Hydrogen acts as a therapeutic antioxidant by selectively reducing cytotoxic oxygen radicals

3. MOLECULAR HYDROGEN IS 100% NATURAL AND COMPLETELY SAFE.

H2 is absolutely safe because it is perfectly natural to the body. H2 requires no energy consumption to break down, has no known toxic effect at even high doses, and simply turns into water after providing its Antioxidant benefit. This is another major advantage of H2 over other types of Antioxidants. We can’t take an unlimited amount of other Antioxidants like vitamin C for example, since our bodies have to process it to break it down. Other Antioxidants have a toxic effect at high concentrations, but not H2.

4. MOLECULAR HYDROGEN IMPROVES THE BODY'S NATURAL ANTIOXIDANT SYSTEMS.

H2 also marshals the rest of the troops, and brings them to the fight. Because H2 is able to penetrate the nucleus, it has effects at the level of gene transcription, through activation of the NRF2 pathway This upregulates your body’s production of endogenous antioxidants, like glutathione, catalase and superoxide dismutase. This combination packs an extremely powerful antioxidant punch.

This is important to combat the general damage that reactive oxygen species (ROS) can cause, and has particular implications for longevity.
